Joe Miller (D-Amherst) introduced legislation today to designate a portion of State Route 57 in the city of Lorain as “Police Chief Cel Rivera Memorial Highway.” Celestino “Cel” Rivera, a Vietnam War veteran, served the Lorain Police Department for 49 years. He began his service in 1971 as a Patrolman, was promoted to Sergeant in 1977, to Lieutenant in 1981, Captain in 1983, and finally to Police Chief in 1994. Cel cared deeply for his fellow officers and for the city of Lorain. He was active in his community and continuously advocated for social justice issues. He retired from the department in 2019 and spent the last few years with his greatest love, his family.

Adam Miller (D-Columbus) and Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today introduced legislation that would ensure the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) remains the sole authority over competition regulations in interscholastic sports. The OHSAA is a voluntary, unincorporated, not-for-profit association of public and private high schools and 7th-8th grade schools that coordinates regulations for athletic competition. The OHSAA Board of Directors, which is elected by its member schools, approves sports regulations for Ohio sports. Ohio’s schools, through the OHSAA, determine the rules of competition from games and matches to state championships for individual and team sports.

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today voted in favor of House Bill (HB) 377, bipartisan legislation to release the second, $442 million batch of local government funding from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan to Ohio’s cities, villages and townships serving 50,000 people or less. Communities of more than 50,000 people receive their allocation directly from the federal government.
