Speaker Huffman Releases Statement on Veto Override Vote

July 21, 2025
Matt Huffman News

COLUMBUS – Speaker of the Ohio House Matt Huffman (R-Lima) today announced that the Ohio House of Representatives voted to override the Governor’s veto on Item #66, a provision that encourages levy transparency and promotes responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars on the local level.

The Speaker released the following statement:

"Through the Budget, the House championed a number of provisions that would have spurred real and fairly immediate relief to Ohio homeowners as soon as January 2026. Unfortunately, many of those provisions were inexplicably vetoed. There was an overwhelming majority of our caucus who wanted to take up Item 66 today and a strong desire to continue work on the others in the weeks ahead.

The action taken by the House today was in direct response to Ohioans across the state who want to see a lower property tax bill next year. It’s an issue we know many are struggling with. Something had to be done, and in short order. I applaud members of the Republican Caucus for being here today and for putting Ohio taxpayers first.

Our caucus conversations will continue with the members about possible additional override votes, including the ones dealing with property taxes.”
