Rep. Mohamed: Ohio Republicans Failed to Act to Help Millions of Ohioans About to Lose SNAP Benefits

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) Wednesday condemned Ohio Republicans in the state legislature for failing to act on any measures that could have preserved Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for 1.4M Ohioans. Instead, in two days, more than half million children, more than 250,000 seniors, and an estimated 45,000 veterans are at risk of going hungry when the federal government defaults on its November deposit to fully fund SNAP benefit cards due to President Trump and Congressional Republicans' refusal to end the federal government shutdown.

Reps. Mohamed, Upchurch Introduce Bill Requiring Landlords Notify Tenants of Rent Defaults, Offers Payment Plan

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) and Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) Wednesday introduced legislation to help assist those who have defaulted on their rent payments, by requiring landlords to provide tenants with written notice of a rent default, including the amount owed, within 60 days of the default. Landlords would then be prohibited from filing for eviction until at least 90 days after providing notice and after offering the tenant an opportunity to negotiate a payment plan. If a tenant complies with the terms of an agreed-upon plan, the landlord would be barred from pursuing eviction.

Rep. Mohamed: Republicans' Veto Override Leaves Local Communities Holding the Bag, Still No Real Property Relief for Majority of Ohioans

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) today voted “NO” on the vote to override a school district property tax levy restriction provision vetoed in House Bill 96 (the state operating budget). Line-item 66 would eliminate several types of levies, limiting the choices voters have in how to support their schools and local governments, and would not provide real property tax relief to Ohioans. Real property tax relief is one of the most pressing needs for everyday Ohioans. House Democrats are ready and willing to work together to get that done.

Franklin County House Democrats Announce $42M for Community Connectivity to Ensure Equitable and Safe Transit

COLUMBUS – The Franklin County Delegation of the Ohio House of Representatives Democratic Caucus today announced that the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) has been awarded $42M dollars in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and Biden-Harris Administration for the construction of the proposed West Broad Street Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
