Rep. Mohamed Condemns Shooting at Easton Town Center
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) today issued the following statement on the Sunday shooting at Easton Town Center that left one teenager dead and injured another.
“The recent act of gun violence in Easton Town Center is a tragedy that no parent or family ever wants to endure” said Rep. Mohamed. “I offer my condolences to the family and friends of the child lost and commend the safety officers and first responders that were quick to respond. No child should ever have access to a deadly firearm. For the sake of our communities and children, the time to enact commonsense gun legislation in Ohio needs to be now. We know a majority of Ohioans Support reforms like mandatory background checks, red flag laws and liability laws mandating safe storage of guns. I urge my Republican colleagues at the Statehouse to act on this public health crisis and be the leaders our constituents sent us here to be.
Two 13-year-olds have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. One has been charged with delinquency murder and another with delinquency count of obstructing justice in Franklin County Juvenile Court.
The victim’s age and name have not yet been confirmed; however he is believed to be under the age of 18.
