Reps. Jarrells, Miller introduce legislation to expand in-state tuition eligibility for veterans

State Reps. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) and Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today introduced the Veteran Education Tuition Support Act, which would expand eligibility for veterans, their spouses, and dependents for in-state tuition. This bill would specifically provide in-state tuition to any member of the Ohio National Guard who had 15 days active duty or active duty training in a service year.

Rep. Jarrells announces $84.7 million for infrastructure funding, new training program to increase lead testing for at risk youth

Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) announced today that the state Controlling Board approved several items of note this week, including $84.7 million for various highway and road construction projects across the state. Included was funding for Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) construction projects and lead abatement.

Rep. Jarrells delivers major win as equal housing provision included in state budget bill

COLUMBUS— Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) today applauded the inclusion of his bipartisan equal housing legislation, House Bill (HB) 354, within the recently signed state budget. Rep. Jarrells introduced the measure alongside Rep. Haraz Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg). It would void language in any existing deed that restricts the sale, transfer or lease of real property to individual based on race, color, religion, sex, military status, familial status, ancestry, disability, or national origin. The bill also protects from civil liability attorneys who discover and remove such discriminatory language from a deed.

Rep. Jarrells introduces legislation requiring officer body cameras and use of force provisions

 COLUMBUS –State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) introduced Andre’s Law, House Bill (HB) 367, regarding the use of body-worn cameras and dashboard cameras by peace officers, the use of excessive force by peace officers, and the public release of body-worn camera or dashboard camera recordings when there is an allegation of peace officer misconduct.

Rep. Jarrells announces House passage of HB 281 to remove derogatory language from the Ohio Revised Code

State Reps. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) and Tom Young (R-Washington Twp.) today announced the House passage of House Bill (HB) 281, also known as the “Mental Health and Disability Terminology Act, that replaces derogatory language related to people with disabilities and updates other statutory provisions in an effort to ensure all Ohioans are treated with dignity, kindness and respect.

Rep. Jarrells introduces bipartisan legislation to eliminate discriminatory restrictive covenants in housing

COLUMBUS – In an effort to ensure all Ohioans have a chance to live where they choose, Reps. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) and Haraz Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) have introduced legislation that aims to further equal housing opportunities by eliminating discriminatory covenants from deeds during property transfers.

Reps. Sobecki, Jarrells lead Democratic opposition to bill that would cut local revenues amid coronavirus pandemic

House Democrats, led by Rep. Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo), the Ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, voted in opposition Wednesday to House Bill (HB) 157, legislation that would prohibit the collection of income taxes from workers who aren’t physically in an office inside the city or village limits.
