Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) announced today that the state Controlling Board approved several items of note this week, including $84.7 million for various highway and road construction projects across the state. Included was funding for Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) construction projects and lead abatement.

“As a lead poisoning survivor, seeing funds invested in infrastructure and lead testing is personal for me and gives me a sense of hope. The reality is, the lack of infrastructure in our communities directly contributes to issues such as lead poisoning. I am happy to see due attention paid to this silent killer,” said Rep. Jarrells.

The Controlling Board also approved $200,000 in each of the next two years to develop a comprehensive lead testing training program for pediatricians in Ohio. The Ohio Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will increase blood lead testing rates of at-risk Ohio children.
