COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Bill 44, sponsored by State Representatives Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) and Joe Miller (D-Amherst) to stiffen penalties for assault when the victim is a sports official in the course of their official duties. The sponsors note a recent uptick in assaults on sports officials and a decline in available referees, hoping that this additional measure will create a safer environment for all involved.

The bill includes Roemer’s House Bill 263 to designate a mile-long portion of County Road 321 in Stark County as “Army Sgt. Vernon R. Judd Memorial Highway.”

The Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Bill 228, sponsored by State Representative Bill Roemer (R–Richfield), which would streamline filing processes for municipal net profits taxes. Currently, businesses can opt into a system run by the Ohio Department of Taxation to pay their municipal net profits tax to the state, which then distributes the revenue to the localities to which the taxes are owed. However, those businesses are still required to notify each municipality in which they owe tax when they opt into the system.
