Legislation aims to increase legislative oversight of administrative agency rulemaking

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Ron Ferguson (R-Wintersville) and Brian Lorenz (R-Powell) recently introduced legislation modeled after the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, a federal legislative proposal that promotes the separation of power between the state legislative and executive branches in relation to administrative rulemaking.

 
 

COLUMBUS—A measure urging the federal government to restore funding at the Piketon-based American Centrifuge Plant received its first hearing in the Ohio House Energy and Natural Resources Committee today.

Representative Derek Merrin (R-Monclova Township) has introduced legislation to repeal the Ohio Financial Institutions Tax (FIT) on Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs). The FIT became effective in Fiscal Year 2014 on financial institutions that do business in Ohio as a replacement for the corporate franchise tax.

 
 
New standardized format will simplify, streamline veteran ID process

Today, State Representatives Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) and Lou Terhar (R-Cincinnati) held a press conference to discuss the finalized format of Ohio veteran identification cards as decided upon by the Veteran ID Material and Design Standards Committee.

COLUMBUS – Representative Callender (R-Concord) announced Tuesday his reappointment as Chair of the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR). 

 
 

COLUMBUS—During a Statehouse press conference today, State Representatives Jonathan Dever (R-Cincinnati) and Alicia Reece (D-Cincinnati) discussed House Bill 380, legislation they recently introduced to create a more transparent investigative process with deaths that result from a law enforcement officer’s use of a firearm.

 
 

Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) was unanimously elected president of the National Speakers Conference by his fellow Speakers of the House at the organization’s recent Executive Committee meeting in Burlington, Vermont. In 2017, Speakers of the House and their Chiefs of Staff from across the United States will come to Ohio for the 26th annual meeting of the National Speakers Conference (NSC), a bipartisan event which will be hosted by Speaker Rosenberger.

 
 

COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representative yesterday passed House Bill 110, the House’s version of Ohio’s two-year budget plan. State Representative Marilyn John (R-Richland County) voted in support of the bill. 

 
 

COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives today passed unanimously House Bill 134, sponsored by State Representatives Cheryl Grossman (R-Grove City) and Mike Curtin (D-Marble Cliff). HB 134 seeks to expedite the foreclosure process and transfer of unoccupied parcels, and to make other changes relative to residential foreclosure actions.

 
 

Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) today announced that his office will be accepting applications for his respective appointments to the Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee. In accordance with the passage of House Bill 523, which permits the use of medical marijuana in the state, an advisory committee will be created to oversee the implementation of the new law.

HB 591 saves taxpayer money by abolishing uncontested special elections
August 25, 2016

State Representative Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville) today introduced House Bill 591, legislation that will eliminate the need to hold special elections in Ohio if there is only one candidate appearing on the ballot to fill a vacancy in a party nomination for Congress. This will apply only when there is one person that has filed a valid declaration of candidacy or no person has filed a valid declaration of candidacy.
