What does being an American mean to you? Each of us has our own ideas of what makes up the character of our great nation, but there are certain indivisible principles that we all hold dear. We are a people who subscribe to the values of freedom and equality. Our heritage is rooted in the belief that all men and women are entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To me, being an American is more than just an issue of residency or birthplace. It marks an adherence to these fundamental ideals and a lifelong dedication to our country and fellow citizens.

XENIA—State Representative Rick Perales (R-Beavercreek) was issued his Ohio Veteran identification card today at the Greene County Recorder’s office, along with a gathering of veterans and local elected officials. Rep. Perales spoke about the benefits the ID cards offer to local veterans, especially those who do not already have a military retirement ID issued by the VA.

COLUMBUS—State Representative Tim Ginter (R-Salem) today welcomed U.S. Navy veteran Robert Bertschy from East Liverpool to speak in the Ohio House Ways and Means Committee about House Bill 24, legislation that modifies tax exemption laws to allow certain veterans’ organizations to be exempt from federal taxation and to exclude property that is not used primarily for meeting, administration and the provision of programs to past and present members of the United States Armed Forces.

State Representative Rick Carfagna (R-Genoa Township) today toured Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) facility in London to learn more about its investigative work on the state level and how those efforts are making a difference in the fight against the opioid epidemic.
