COLUMBUS – Ohio House Speaker Bob Cupp (R-Lima) today was re-elected as Speaker as lawmakers convened the 134th General Assembly.

COLUMBUS – Governor Mike DeWine today signed Senate Bill 175 into law. 

Today, State Rep. Marilyn John (R-Richland County) was officially sworn-in for her first term of office as the state representative for the 2nd Ohio House District. The district includes all of Richland County.

COLUMBUS – State Representative Don Jones (R-Freeport) today was sworn into the 134th General Assembly and elected to serve on the Republican leadership team as Majority Whip.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 5, legislation that creates the Public Defender State Loan Repayment Program to help recruit and retain attorneys to serve as public defenders.

Today, State Rep. Tim Ginter (R-Salem) was officially sworn-in to his fourth term of office for the 5th Ohio House District, which includes all of Columbiana County. Ginter has also been elected to serve on Speaker Bob Cupp’s (R-Lima) leadership team, as Speaker Pro-Tempore, for the chamber’s 134th General Assembly.

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Scott Wiggam (R-Wayne County) today announced his petition to encourage the Senate to initiate the override of the governor’s veto of Substitute Senate Bill 311 was journalized in the Ohio House Clerk’s Office.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 1, legislation that expands access to treatment in lieu of conviction and sealing of low-level, non-violent, non-sex offenses. The goal of the legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Phil Plummer (R-Dayton) and Paula Hicks-Hudson (D-Toledo), is to expand opportunity for those who have made a mistake to right a wrong and become a productive member of society.

Speaker Bob Cupp joined other state leaders today in announcing $425 million in aid to help Ohio families, businesses and more who have been impacted by COVID-19.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 10, legislation that creates the Governor’s Office of Drug Policy. This legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester) and Reggie Stoltzfus (R-Minerva) will create a permanent, centralized office within the governor’s office to coordinate the state’s drug-related efforts. The bill also will help support local efforts, including sharing best practices that have made a difference and helping facilitate mutual aid across communities.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 12, legislation that creates the Ohio Children’s Behavioral Health Network. This legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Don Manning (R-New Middletown) and Thomas West (D-Canton) will bring together a diverse group of experts to develop evidence- and outcome-based solutions to improve the mental health of children and young adults, and reduce suicides.

COLUMBUS – Speaker Bob Cupp announced today that veteran Statehouse budget and policy staffer Christine Morrison has been named chief of staff for the Ohio House of Representatives.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 2, the Tech Cred job training grant program. This legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Jon Cross (R-Kenton) and Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) creates a grant program to support training for in-demand jobs.

COLUMBUS – Speaker Bob Cupp today named lawmakers to the new House Select Committee on Energy Policy and Oversight, which will lead efforts to repeal and replace House Bill 6.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 14, legislation that creates the Kinship Navigator Program. This legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) and Brian Baldridge (R-Winchester) will help kinship caregivers locate support services that are available to them.

COLUMBUS – Speaker Bob Cupp today announced the creation of the House Select Committee on Energy Policy and Oversight, which will focus on energy issues and be tasked with crafting legislation to repeal and replace House Bill 6.

This hiring stems from Speaker Householder’s promise to bring on staff a qualified and tenured Human Resources professional for the Ohio House.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) and House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 8, Foster Caregiver Training legislation. This legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield) and Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) revises the requirements for foster caregiver training in Ohio so that these potential foster parents can be trained, licensed, and approved in a more effective manner.

COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) and House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 4, legislation that streamlines Ohio’s process for creating new job training certificates and industry-recognized credential programs. House Bill 4 is one of the bipartisan priority bills for the 133rd General Assembly, legislation that builds pillars for a stronger Ohio.
