Rep. Upchurch Testifies in Favor of Bipartisan Bill to Track Pregnancy Outcomes for Ohio's Incarcerated Population

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today offered sponsor testimony for his bipartisan piece of legislation, House Bill (HB) 542, before the House Government Oversight Committee. HB 542 requires state, county, and municipal prisons to report pregnancy outcomes to the DRC, in an effort to understand the severity of stillbirth occurrences in correctional facilities across the state. The DRC currently requires deaths in Ohio’s prisons to be reported, and this legislation will expand that requirement to include pregnancy outcomes.

Reps. Synenberg, Upchurch Condemn Recent Action by President Donald J. Trump

COLUMBUS — State Reps. Eric Synenberg (D-Beachwood) and Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today called on their colleagues in the Ohio General Assembly to join them in condemning a recent action by President Donald J. Reps. Mohamed, Upchurch Introduce Bill Requiring Landlords Notify Tenants of Rent Defaults, Offers Payment Plan

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) and Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) Wednesday introduced legislation to help assist those who have defaulted on their rent payments, by requiring landlords to provide tenants with written notice of a rent default, including the amount owed, within 60 days of the default. Landlords would then be prohibited from filing for eviction until at least 90 days after providing notice and after offering the tenant an opportunity to negotiate a payment plan. If a tenant complies with the terms of an agreed-upon plan, the landlord would be barred from pursuing eviction.
