Rep. Munira Pleased to Host First Islamic Guest Prayer of the 135th General Assembly

COLUMBUS- State Rep. Munira Abdullahi (D-Columbus) last week helped facilitate the first Islamic guest prayer of the 135th General Assembly.

“Alhamdulillah, I had the honor and privilege of hosting Imam Abdurrahman Justin Wood for our first Islamic prayer of the 135th General Assembly. It is more incredible when factoring that just months ago, members of this body tried to ban non-Christian prayers from the House,” said Rep. Munira. “‘The People’s House’ deserves to be reflective of Ohioans’ various beautiful cultures and religions. Ensuring marginalized groups are represented makes me feel most honored.”

Representative Munira Abdullahi is the first Muslim woman and the first Somali American to serve in the Ohio House of Representatives.
