Rep. Munira Celebrates Passage of Issue 1, Says Victory Returns Fundamental Freedom to Women, Families

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Munira Abdullahi (D-Columbus) today released the following statement concerning Issue 1’s resounding passage by Ohio’s voters:

“Last week’s election marked a historic victory for our great state. I want to acknowledge and thank our constituents who volunteered and came out in droves to protect reproductive rights in Ohio,” said Rep. Munira. “Reproductive rights are human rights and Ohioans have now ensured the safety of those rights. This is a decision by the people, for the people. Surely, this will lead to a more healthy and safe state for Ohio’s women, particularly those most marginalized- Black/POC women, girls, and disabled women.” 

Issue 1’s victory now enshrines abortion rights into Ohio’s constitution and guarantees every individual a right to make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions, including but not limited to decisions on, contraception, fertility treatment, continuing one’s own pregnancy, and miscarriage care.
