Brent announces upcoming back-to-school sales tax holiday weekend

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced the upcoming back-to-school Ohio sales tax holiday that will take place starting on Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4. In 2018, state lawmakers passed legislation making this three-day, back-to-school sales tax holiday a recurring holiday each year.

“The back-to-school sales tax holiday will be a tremendous help for families and teachers alike when shopping for school supplies,” said Rep. Brent. “Ohioans work hard every day to provide for their families so we, as state legislators, must work hard for them to keep our Ohio Promise of living a better life right here at home.”

Dem lawmakers praise governor's veto of budget provision that would have limited money for local school districts

State Reps. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) and Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today issued a joint statement applauding Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto of a provision within the state budget, House Bill 166, that would have limited the ability of certain school districts to raise operating funds through local property taxes.

Brent, Cuyahoga Dems: Remove budget provision moving 2020 presidential primary to St. Patrick's Day

OLBC outlines Build Up Black Families legislative package commemorating Juneteenth anniversary

Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) members today held a press conference outlining their Build Up Black Families legislative package in honor of Juneteenth, which marks the anniversary of the first announcement of the abolition of slavery in America.

“As we’ve been working to restore the Ohio promise of a better life and brighter future for everyone, we say that family comes first and we mean that,” said Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland). “Our members have been working together, drafting common sense legislation to deliver results for a real shot at the American Dream for black families in Ohio.”

Rep. Brent announces over $1.6M state support for local tech start-ups

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced the release of $1,650,000 in state funding to create the North Coast Angel Fund III, LLC (NCAF) in Mayfield Heights to support innovative early-stage technology companies in Northeast Ohio.

“This is going to be a tremendous opportunity for local tech entrepreneurs to get off of the ground with strong support from the state,” said Rep. Brent. “These funds will give residents of our Cleveland community a real shot at the American Dream, pursuing their own business venture.”

Rep. Brent announces state support for psychiatric care at Warrensville Developmental Center

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced the release of $70,720 in state funding for University Hospital Medical Group, Inc. to continue to provide psychiatric services to residents of the Warrensville Developmental Center (WDC).

“It is essential that residents of House District 12 receive the care they need, with the facilities and doctors they trust like at the Warrensville Developmental Center,” said Rep. Brent. “I’m pleased to see the state making the health of our constituents a top priority with this release of funding.”
