Brent: Highway to be named after Councilman Ronald H. Barron

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) announced this week that a stretch of Interstate 271 in Cuyahoga County will be named the “Ronald H. Barron Memorial Highway,” after former Orange City Councilman Ronald H. Barron, following the unanimous passage of House Bill (HB) 234 in the House Transportation and Public Safety Committee.

“Councilman Barron had key influence in the development of the Pinecrest shopping area in Orange. It was his brainchild and it has had a positive, lasting impact on our community,” said Rep. Brent. “I am honored to announce state support of his legacy upon the successful passage of this bill.”

Barron had a close relationship with his community, particularly the first responders he represented. When Orange wanted to renovate and reinvigorate part of their village, Councilman Barron committed so wholeheartedly that he and his family moved into the first apartment in Pinecrest. Beyond his dedication to public service, he was a husband, a father and a mentor.

HB 234 passed through the Transportation and Public Safety committee unanimously earlier this week, with the late councilman’s family in attendance. His family members gave testimony about his hardworking nature and noted how grateful they were for him to be honored with a memorial highway dedication.

The stretch of highway named after Barron will run next to the Pinecrest development that he helped pioneer.

The legislation honoring Barron was included in an omnibus bill with several other road-naming provisions, which will now go before the full Ohio House and Senate for further consideration.
