Rep. Brent Calls for Substance Over Symbols in Response to Governor DeWine's State of the State Address

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) today issued a statement following the Governor Mike DeWine's State of the State Address, calling for meaningful investments in Ohio's communities over symbolic gestures.
“If Governor DeWine is concerned that our children are not reading enough, he should not be simultaneously cutting the legs out from under our public libraries and public-school funding,” said Rep. Brent. “Furthermore, while I join the governor in celebrating East Cleveland City Schools for improving their academic scores and moving toward removal from the Academic Distress Commission, praise doesn't pay for the wrap-around services and school funding those students and residents desperately need. It is time to put state dollars where our mouth is.”
