Rep. Synenberg Stands with Texas Lawmakers at Press Conference Against Rigged Congressional Maps
BOSTON - State Rep. Eric Synenberg (D-Beachwood) today stood in solidarity with Democratic members of the Texas legislature and dozens of lawmakers from other states in Boston, MA denouncing the undemocratic attempt by Texas Republicans to unfairly redraw the state's congressional maps to favor Republicans candidates ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Rep. Synenberg is in Boston attending the annual National Conference of State Legislatures.
“I was proud to stand today with my Ohio House colleagues and legislators from over 30 states in solidarity with our colleagues from Texas,” said Rep. Synenberg. “Our democracy is under assault because gerrymandering allows politicians to choose their voters, resulting in unrepresentative and often illegitimate outcomes. We see this happening right here in Ohio. Extreme gerrymandering has created distorted districts that protect an unchecked supermajority, one that does not reflect the will of the people and undermines the core principle of fair representation.”
President Donald Trump demanded Texas redraw its congressional map in hopes of adding five more GOP seats in Texas in the midterm elections to increase Republicans’ chances of holding its slim majority in the U.S. House. Republicans currently hold 25 of Texas' 38 seats.
