COLUMBUS – State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today voted “NO” on the Republican state operating budget, House Bill (HB) 96, because it arbitrarily and recklessly slashes critical state funding areas while failing to benefit everyday Ohioans. Rather than provide real and meaningful support to Ohio’s citizens, House Republicans chose to dismantle the constitutional and bipartisan fair school funding formula, dump more taxpayer money into vouchers for charter non-public and private schools that benefit the wealthiest Ohioans, and authorize a $600M handout to billionaires to build a new Browns stadium outside of Cleveland amidst opposition by local leaders.

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland) today called Ohioans to action in support of Ohio’s public library systems which face a more than $100M cut in funding in the proposed Ohio House operating budget.

Brewer (D-Cleveland) today released the following statements concerning Governor Mike DeWine’s harmful decision to sign Senate Bill (SB) 1 into law rather than listen to the overwhelming number of workers, students, teachers, and parents who called on him to veto the dangerous bill:

COLUMBUS – State Representatives Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) and Jennifer Gross (R-West Chester) today introduced bipartisan legislation that would exempt firearm safety devices from sales and use tax. The purpose of this bill is to prevent firearm related injuries and deaths by encouraging Ohioans to properly store and secure their guns. This legislation has received support from advocacy groups on both ends of the ideological spectrum for gun safety, such as the Buckeye Firearms Association and Moms Demand Action.

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today called on colleagues to address the gun violence epidemic. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more than 150 incidents of gun violence in Ohio in 2025, and according to the Ohio Gun Violence Memorial, a total of 54 deaths. Ohio has tragically lost 10 children aged 18 and under to gun violence since the beginning of the year.
