COLUMBUS – State Rep. Eric Synenberg (D-Beachwood) today announced that Ohio Arts Council awarded $14,000 in grant funding to the Oliver Hazard Perry Elementary school in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

“I was proud to advocate for funding for the Ohio Arts Council in the recently passed state operating budget. It’s rewarding to see those public dollars now at work, supporting arts programs right here in our district. This investment strengthens our schools and supports our educators, while also giving young students the opportunity to grow their creativity, build confidence, and share their talents with others,” said Rep. Synenberg.

These dollars will be used to fund a 40-day residency with Tom Evert of DANCE EVE who will lead students and staff through an impactful arts-integrated programming that will provide learning through the integration of the art of dance with STEM content and present a concert to the community of the students' work. The students' learning will demonstrate a greater understanding of some or all of the academic content standards for dance and academics. Expressive movement is social/emotional learning, including self-awareness, decision-making, relationship skills, collaboration, and self-regulation. Practices of breathing, posture, movement, and mindfulness will also be introduced. These skills are the crucial precursors to attention and learning.  Development for staff will introduce new teaching methods to use directly in their classrooms and lend support to current teaching methodologies.
