COLUMBUS – State Representative Elgin Rogers, Jr. (D-Toledo) has been elected by his legislative peers to serve a two-year term on the Executive Committee of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Legislative Caucus (GLLC) during the organization’s 2026 Annual Meeting, held September 28–29 in Marquette, Michigan.

The GLLC is a binational, nonpartisan organization bringing together state and provincial legislators from the eight Great Lakes states and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Québec to advance policies protecting and restoring the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin. The caucus works on issues including safe drinking water, toxic and emerging contaminants, invasive species, water use, nutrient pollution and the long-term sustainability of the region’s freshwater resources.

“The Great Lakes are more than a body of water—they are our drinking water, our economy, our environment and part of our identity,” said Rep. Rogers. “Water does not recognize state lines or international borders, and protecting it requires us to work together across those boundaries. I am honored that my colleagues from across the United States and Canada have entrusted me with this leadership responsibility.”

Rep. Rogers has been an active member of the GLLC and has served on its water-focused work, advocating for clean, safe drinking water and stronger protections against toxins, emerging contaminants and unnecessary chemicals entering the Great Lakes. He has also authored a resolution supporting and protecting the Great Lakes fishing industry, recognizing its importance to the region’s economy, environment, recreation and way of life.

“From Toledo and Lake Erie to communities throughout the entire Great Lakes basin, every family deserves clean water coming from their faucet, every child deserves protection from harmful contaminants, and future generations deserve Great Lakes that are healthier than we found them. Protecting the source of life—our water—is not optional. It is our responsibility,” Rep. Rogers added. “Next year, we will have the privilege of welcoming this binational organization to Toledo and showing our colleagues both the beauty of Lake Erie and the challenges that have made Northwest Ohio a national leader in the fight for clean water,” Rogers said. “Toledo knows firsthand that protecting the Great Lakes means protecting people.”
