Rep. Rogers Celebrates Victory for Democracy 

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Elgin Rogers (D-Toledo) today thanked the citizens of Ohio for their overwhelming support in defeating Issue 1 during the August 8th Special Election. 

“Today is a great day for our democracy. The citizens of Ohio came to the polls to protect their voices and the principle of political equality, i.e., “one person one vote.” Voters sent a loud and clear message, the people of Ohio will not have our rights and our voices diminished by power-hungry politicians and big-money special interests. This is a momentous victory, but the fight for democracy and justice continues,” said Rep. Rogers.

Issue 1 was defeated by over 10 percentage points, a significant victory for ensuring that Ohio’s democratic process remains intact. This election ensures that future constitutional changes will reflect the majority’s will.
