Rep. Hall Announces Passage of Final State Capital Budget, Securing Transformative Community Investments in Summit County

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Derrick Hall (D-Akron) today announced the passage of Senate Bill 450, the state’s biennial state capital budget, in both the Ohio House of Representatives and Senate. The $3.7 billion investment makes appropriations for state-owned infrastructure, colleges, universities, and school districts, as well as other community projects.
The capital budget is the mechanism by which the state funds its brick-and-mortar needs. This ranges from the construction and renovation of K-12 public schools and higher education facilities to public works programs and mental health treatment centers, as well as funding local community projects. It includes funding for projects that expand access to healthcare, strengthen local economies, preserve cultural institutions, improve public infrastructure, and enhance quality of life for residents across the region.
“These investments will create and improve the places and services our community relies on every day. Summit County as a whole will benefit from the success of these projects, and I am eager to see how our neighborhoods thrive with the passing of this budget,” said Rep. Hall.
Rep. Hall secured $7.8 million for Summit County, including funding for a number of community projects that support his House District, including:
- ACCESS Shelter for Women and Children Expansion Project - $250,000
- Akron Civic Theatre Roof Replacement Project - $750,000
- EJ Thomas Performing Arts Improvements - $1,000,000
- Akron Zoo Giraffe Journey - $740,000
- CHC Addiction Recovery - $100,000
- Dan Street Public Safety Training Center - $400,000
- Hope & Healing Emergency Shelter Safety & Restoration Project - $200,000
- Barlow Farm Park Trail - $150,000
- Munroe Falls Community Park Playground Improvements - $200,000
- Oxbow Meadows Project - $400,000
- Stow Bike & Hike Spur Project - $50,000
“From the expansion of the Akron Zoo to the improvements made to Munroe Falls Community Park Playground, everyone gains something from the projects that this budget will fund,” said Rep. Hall.
