Rep. Brewer Provides Sponsor Testimony on Consumer Centered Parking Legislation

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today gave sponsor testimony on House Bill (HB) 653, legislation that creates statewide civil parking ticket standards. While parking enforcement is necessary, statewide standards are also needed to protect Ohio drivers from excessive and accumulating fines and fees.

Rep. Brewer Introduces Bipartisan, Pro-Consumer Parking Legislation

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) yesterday introduced bipartisan legislation to establish statewide standards for civil parking ticket late fees. Current state law does not set a maximum late fee, specify a minimum grace period, or restrict administrative and collection charges. As a result, municipalities can impose penalties that exceed the original fine, often in a short period of time. Penalties can add up quickly and vary across jurisdictions, disproportionately impacting low-income residents, seniors, and working families.

Rep. Brewer's Bipartisan House Bill 393 Passes the Ohio House

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 393 out of the Ohio House with a vote of 86-0. This bipartisan legislation requires community-based correctional facilities and programs to assist individuals in custody in obtaining a state-issued identification card prior to their release. Previously, the 135th General Assembly enacted a program to assist individuals in custody of the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections in obtaining an ID card, HB 393 expands this program to community based correctional facilities.

Rep. Brewer: Ohio Republicans Place New Burdens on Voters by Adding Unnecessary Hurdles to the Voting Process

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today condemned the passage of anti-voter Senate Bill (SB) 293 which places new burdens on voters by adding unnecessary hurdles to the voting process, shortening the time available for Ohioans to make their voices heard, and weakening essential accountability measures.

Rep. Brewer's Bipartisan House Bill 393 Passes the House Community Revitalization Committee

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today celebrated the passage of bipartisan House Bill (HB) 393 out of the House Community Revitalization Committee. This legislation requires community based correctional facilities to assist residents in obtaining state ID cards. Previously, the 135th General Assembly enacted a program to assist individuals in custody of the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections in obtaining an ID card, HB 393 expands this program to community based correctional facilities.
