COLUMBUS – State Representatives Phil Plummer and D.J. Swearingen today proposed legislation to improve our current firearms background check process and close gaps in state law to help local law enforcement and prosecutors better protect Ohioans.

COLUMBUS - Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford), Chairman of the Legislative Service Commission, today announced that Wendy Zhan has been selected to serve as the new Director of the Legislative Service Commission (LSC). Zhan is replacing Mark Flanders who is retiring after 35 years of public service, 30 of it with LSC.

State Representative Gary Scherer (R-Circleville) honored Ohio prisons Director Gary Mohr for being named has the recipient of the Tom Clements Innovation Award, a national award given by the Association of State Correctional Administrators.

Today, State Representative Cheryl Grossman (R-Grove City) presented a resolution honoring the Ohio Chapter of the American Heart Association during American Heart Month.

State Representatives Mike Dovilla (R-Berea) and Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) today provided sponsor testimony on House Bill 445 before of the House Education Committee.

Representative Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) applauds the Ohio Controlling Board for recently approving the release of capital funds for improvement projects in Scioto County. Road work improvements as well as upgrades to camera surveillance equipment at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility were approved for state funding to complete the projects.

COLUMBUS—Today, Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville), Finance Committee Chairman Ryan Smith (R-Bidwell) and Speaker Pro Tempore Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) discussed details of House Bill 49, the state operating budget. Following the recent announcement by state leaders that spending will be restrained due to lower than expected revenue estimates, the bill promotes a fiscally sound plan by staying under the rate of inflation over the biennium and responsibly allocating funds towards areas that are most in need, such as battling the drug epidemic and funding schools. 

COLUMBUS - Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced that Douglas J. Swearingen, Jr. (R-Huron) was sworn in to serve as state representative to the 89^th House District, which covers both Erie and Ottawa counties. Representative Swearingen replaces Representative Steven Arndt (R-Port Clinton) who retired on July 31, 2019. 

COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 18, legislation sponsored by Rep. Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville) that would save taxpayer dollars by eliminating unnecessary elections.

COLUMBUS—State Representative Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) today announced that the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) has approved a Job Creation Tax Credit for an expansion project by Camaco Manufacturing in Lorain County. Through the tax credit, the company will expand its operations by over 200 jobs and will solidify $18.7 million in existing payroll (approximately 450 existing jobs) that the company currently employs. 

COLUMBUS – A plan that will save Ohio’s electric ratepayers $1.3 billion has been approved by the Ohio House of Representatives.

It’s something we don’t often think about, but something that affects the ins and outs of our everyday lives: managing money. As a young adult who worked her way through college and continued to work an additional job during my first terms as your state representative, learning how to manage and invest my earnings has been an important part of building my family and ensuring our stability in the future.

COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representatives today approved a new two-year state budget that includes major health care reforms as well as tax relief for Ohio families.

Today State Representative Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) announced passage of House Bill 185, legislation he sponsored which simplifies the process of charging an arsonist for burning down an unoccupied building.

Today, State Representative Jim Buchy (R-Greenville) presented a resolution to the Coldwater High School football team honoring them on their fourth straight Division V State Championship.

State Representative Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) and State Representative Jim Buchy (R-Greenville) today applauded an announcement by the Ohio Department of Education stating that, for the 2014-15 Ohio School Report Cards, there will be additional information regarding participation of students in state tests last year and how this impacts the achievement measure score and grade for schools.

COLUMBUS—Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) recently appointed State Representative Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) to the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission (OTIC). Rep. Patton will serve as one of the non-voting members on the ten-member board.

Yesterday the Ohio House Education Committee passed Sub. House Bill 113, which would require CPR training for high school students entering 9th grade for the first time on or after July 1, 2016. House Bill 113 was sponsored by State Representatives Cheryl Grossman (R-Grove City) and Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville).

COLUMBUS—State Representative Al Landis (R-Dover) today announced that he will join Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine in hosting “TUSC Talk: An Evening to Discuss Heroin and Other Opiates in our Community.” The event will give individuals and families an opportunity to learn more about what’s being done at the state level to combat Ohio’s opiate abuse epidemic while discussing how it is impacting communities.

During a press conference this afternoon at the Statehouse, Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) and several House Republican leaders joined former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason and Reverend David Hoffman to discuss budget provisions regarding funding for the Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH).

PARMA—State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) recently hosted an evening forum where parents could hear from and speak with representatives of local institutions of higher learning. The forum, which included presentations from the Ohio Department of Higher Education, the Department of Education, the Cuyahoga County Public Library, and Rep. Anielski, highlighted different programs, pathways, and opportunities that are available to students thinking about college or trade schools.

COLUMBUS— State Reps. Ron Young (R-Leroy Twp.) and Thomas E. West (D-Canton) today introduced House Bill 177, bipartisan legislation to expand access to 501(c)(3) fitness facilities by exempting nonprofit gym memberships from the sales tax. Ohio is currently one of only five states to tax nonprofit gym memberships.
