Rep. Upchurch Testifies in Favor of Bipartisan Bill to Track Pregnancy Outcomes for Ohio's Incarcerated Population

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today offered sponsor testimony for his bipartisan piece of legislation, House Bill (HB) 542, before the House Government Oversight Committee. HB 542 requires state, county, and municipal prisons to report pregnancy outcomes to the DRC, in an effort to understand the severity of stillbirth occurrences in correctional facilities across the state. The DRC currently requires deaths in Ohio’s prisons to be reported, and this legislation will expand that requirement to include pregnancy outcomes.

COLUMBUS — State Reps. Eric Synenberg (D-Beachwood) and Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today called on their colleagues in the Ohio General Assembly to join them in condemning a recent action by President Donald J. Trump, who posted a demeaning video depicting former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys. The lawmakers are urging members to sign on to a resolution formally condemning the action.

 
 
Leader Isaacsohn, OLBC President Upchurch Urge Secretary of State to Halt Confusing Voter Registration Directives

COLUMBUS — Minority Leader Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati) and Ohio Legislative Black Caucus President Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today called on Secretary of State Frank LaRose to pause the implementation of new election directives under Senate Bill (SB) 293 , citing concerns that they could wrongly cancel voter registrations and confuse both voters and election boards.
