COLUMBUS – State Reps. Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood) and Sean Patrick Brennan (D–Parma) today applauded Governor Mike DeWine’s veto of House Bill (HB) 173, legislation that would have weakened consumer protections for Ohioans living in sub-metered apartments and condominiums and small businesses.

COLUMBUS — Ohio House Minority Leader Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati), Member of the Select Committee on Data Centers Representative Glassburn (D–North Olmstead) House Energy Committee Ranking Member Representative Rader (D–Cleveland), and the members of the Ohio House Democratic Caucus leadership team today sent a letter to Governor Mike DeWine urging immediate action to establish a statewide utility rate class for large data centers in order to protect Ohio families and businesses from looming electricity rate increases.

COLUMBUS – Reps. Tristan Rader (D – Cleveland) and Sean Brennan (D – Parma) sent a letter urging Governor DeWine to veto Substitute House Bill 173. This letter cites concerns regarding the conflicting regulatory frameworks between HB 173 and the one laid out in the recent Ohio Supreme Court Ruling In re Complaint of Ohio Power Co. v. Nationwide Energy Partners, L.L.C.

Tristan Rader (D – Lakewood) today introduced legislation to repeal the data center sales tax exemption following a recent article indicating that Ohio has forgone $1.6 billion dollars in 2025 due to the incentive. This is a loss 11 times larger than the Ohio Department of Taxation originally estimated.
