COLUMBUS — State Rep. Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood) today released a statement on President Donald Trump’s manufacturing funding cut:

Donald Trump just pulled the plug on millions of federal funding that helps manufacturers in Cleveland and across Ohio. Working people, again, are the ones paying the price. Trump’s decision threatens millions in investment and dozens of jobs, not on Wall Street, but on factory floors in our communities.

Programs like MAGNET exist to help small and mid-sized manufacturers modernize, compete globally, and keep good union adjacent jobs right here in Northeast Ohio.

For years, Donald Trump has talked a big game about being pro-worker and pro-manufacturing. But when it comes time to actually support American industry, he caves to extremists who want to gut public investment and let corporations fend for themselves or offshore everything. This cut does not hurt CEOs. It hurts machinists, engineers, apprentices, and small suppliers trying to survive in a tough economy.

Ohio workers do not need more empty slogans. They need stable investment and a federal government that shows up for manufacturing towns instead of abandoning them.

If Donald Trump will not stand with working people, then Congress and states like Ohio must step up, restore this funding, and make it clear that our economy works best when we invest in workers, not when we sacrifice them for political games,” said Rep. Rader.

Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET) is a non-profit organization based in Cleveland, Ohio, dedicated to supporting and strengthening manufacturing businesses, especially small and mid-sized manufacturers, in Northeast Ohio.
