Reps. Rader, Mathews Legislation Honoring NASA's Legacy Passes Ohio House, Heads to Senate
COLUMBUS – State Reps. Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood) and Ty Mathews (R-Findlay) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 293, bipartisan legislation designating a statewide “NASA Day of Remembrance” in Ohio.
HB 293 establishes an annual observance to honor the men and women of NASA who gave their lives in the pursuit of space exploration, including the crews of Apollo 1, Challenger, and Columbia. The day also recognizes the countless Ohioans whose innovation, courage, and dedication have made the state a cradle of aerospace advancement.
“As the birthplace of aviation and home to many of NASA’s pioneering astronauts, Ohio has always been at the forefront of discovery,” said Rep. Rader. “This day ensures that we not only remember the sacrifices made but also inspire future generations to dream beyond the horizon.”
Ohio is home to NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland and the Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, both of which continue to play vital roles in national space and aeronautics missions.
HB 293 passed with strong bipartisan support in the House and now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
