COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood) Wednesday applauded the bipartisan passage of House Bill (HB) 303 through the Ohio House of Representatives. This bill is a community energy pilot program to build community energy projects across the state of Ohio. Community energy projects, that include small-scale solar gardens and rooftop solar, bring power generation to the local level and save consumers money in transmission costs.

“This program will expedite the process of bringing enough new electrons onto the grid to power up to 1.5 million homes and lead to economic opportunities over the lifecycle of these community energy facilities. Demands for electricity continues to increase and federal investments in renewable energy being phased out. I am extremely pleased that we have passed this critical investment for Ohio,” said Rep. Rader

Under a community energy program, Ohioans would have a choice in their energy source regardless of any physical and financial barriers, allowing renters and people of all income levels to subscribe and save.

If signed into law, HB 303 will make Ohio a national leader in community energy programs and serve as a model for implementing this kind of program for Republican-led states across the country.

HB 303 will now be introduced in the Senate.
