Rep. Rader Calls on Congressional Delegation to Act Against Trump Administration Overreach
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood) today released a joint letter alongside 17 members of the Ohio House and Ohio Senate addressed to the state’s congressional delegation, urging swift and decisive action to reassert the role of Congress in the face of recent actions by President Trump. The letter calls for a unified effort to counteract a troubling pattern of executive overreach and emphasizes that the separation of powers is a cornerstone of American democracy that must be protected to maintain the balance between branches of government.
“Donald Trump and Elon Musk are unilaterally acting without the advice and consent of Congress in matters that demand by law congressional oversight,” said Rep. Rader. “Elections have consequences, and this administration is determined to push the boundaries of what is constitutional on a daily basis to the detriment of millions of Ohioans.”
Key concerns outlined in the letter include:
-
-
- Federal Funding Freeze: On January 27, 2025, the Office of Management and Budget directed a halt to legally appropriated federal funding, undermining Congress’ constitutional power of the purse.
- Dismissal of Inspector Generals: On January 24, 2025, the administration dismissed 17 inspector generals without providing Congress with proper notice or justification, violating legal protocols meant to ensure government oversight.
- Expansion of Executive Power: The administration has asserted broad, unchecked executive authority, including suspending laws and dismissing personnel outside of legal procedures, eroding the legislative branch’s role in lawmaking.
