Rep. Brennan Launches Flag Retirement Collection Program in Parma, Parma Heights
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan (D-Parma) today is proud to announce the launch of a community-wide Flag Retirement Collection Program, aimed at providing residents with a respectful and convenient way to retire worn or damaged American flags.
“As a former civics teacher and the grandson of a U.S. Navy veteran, I understand the importance of honoring our nation's flag,” said Rep. Brennan. “This program gives our community an easy and respectful way to dispose of old flags while paying tribute to the ideals they represent.”
Beginning this week, specially marked collection bins will be available at all Cuyahoga County Public Library branches in Parma and Parma Heights. Residents are encouraged to place any U.S. flags that are no longer suitable for display in the designated bins. The collected flags will then be retired with proper dignity in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code, through ceremonies conducted by local veterans organizations.
The program is a collaboration between Rep. Brennan’s office, local veterans groups, and the Cuyahoga County Public Library system. It will run year-round, ensuring that residents have continuous access to a proper disposal option.
