COLUMBUS — State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan (D-Parma) today praised St. Columbkille School and Incarnate Word Academy, both located in House District 14, for being named to the Purple Star Class of 2025 by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

The Purple Star designation honors schools that show an exceptional commitment to supporting students and families connected to our nation’s armed forces. Across Ohio, 367 schools earned the designation this year—including 115 first-time recipients and 252 schools renewing their commitment after three years.

“As a former educator and proud American, I am deeply grateful for the work St. Columbkille and Incarnate Word are doing to support military-connected students,” said Rep. Brennan. “These schools are not only cultivating academic excellence—they are also creating welcoming and supportive environments for the children of those who serve and sacrifice for our country. This recognition is well-deserved and a reflection of our community’s values.”

The Purple Star program requires schools to meet rigorous criteria, including designating a staff member as a military liaison, offering resources to military families, and demonstrating a schoolwide culture of appreciation for service members and their families.

“This kind of recognition speaks volumes about the leadership, staff, and students at both schools. Their compassion and commitment set a strong example for all schools across Ohio,” added Rep. Brennan.
