COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan (Parma) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 15, which eliminates a hidden charge Ohioans have been paying on their electric bills every month since 2020, as a result of HB 6 of the 133rd General Assembly. Rep. Brennan has championed this effort since joining the Ohio House of Representatives in 2023.

“My duty as an elected official is to serve honorably and make the quality of life of those I serve better. This legislation serves both goals by eliminating the vestiges of a bill born out of corruption and providing residents with some needed financial relief during these challenging economic times,” said Rep. Brennan. “Protecting Ohio’s electric customers should be a goal of all public servants. To that end, I am happy about the bipartisan support for my proposal and the bill.”

To date, Ohio families have been on the hook for approximately $150M each year in subsidies paid to Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC). HB 15 eliminates this final vestige of HB 6 - the most corrupt legislation that has ever passed through the Ohio Legislature - and will result in Ohioans paying an electric bill saving one-half a billion dollars between now and 2030. HB 15 achieves a number of things for Ohioans, but most notably, it keeps hard earned money in the pockets of our residents who need it.

HB 15 passed through the Ohio House of Representatives with overwhelming support with a vote of 90-3 and now awaits its first hearing in the Ohio Senate.
