COLUMBUS – State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) announced her support of Senate Bill 157 that passed out of the Ohio House today. The legislation is the Born Alive Protection Act, which helps to protect the lives of a child who is born alive after a botched abortion.

Under the bill, a medical professional performing an abortion must preserve the health of the baby if that abortion is botched and the baby is born alive.

Additionally, if the physician who performs the abortion does not attempt to save the child if they are born alive, they can be sued for being guilty of abortion manslaughter.

Furthermore, physicians must submit monthly and annual reports summarizing the data available to their facility. Failure to do so will result in possible legal repercussions.

“It is imperative that we protect all life and I am proud to support Senate Bill 157 because every life is valuable and deserves proper care. No child should be left to die and this bill ensures that all babies born alive have a chance at life,” said Fowler Arthur.
