COLUMBUS – State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) announced her support of House Bill 3, better known as Aisha’s Law, which passed out of the Ohio House today by a vote of 91-2.

“House Bill 3 requires “lethality training” which will help law enforcement properly categorize and respond to repeated domestic violence offenses in a way that better protects those in vulnerable situations.  We hope this groundwork will save lives and better equip law enforcement to handle these difficult cases,” said Fowler Arthur.

This bill will create a continuum of protections for victims of domestic violence who find themselves in extremely risky or possibly lethal situations.

“No woman should live in fear for her life and House Bill three is a necessary piece of legislation to ensure that victims across Ohio are given the protections they need and deserve,” said Fowler Arthur.

Aisha’s Law works to make strides in protecting victims of domestic violence while also preventing these sorts of tragedies from occurring. This legislation strives to ensure that all Ohioans feel safe and comfortable in both their homes and communities.

Unfortunately, we see instances of domestic violence far too often in the state of Ohio. It was reported by Attorney General Yost that there was a shocking 38,475 cases of domestic violence incidents (DVI) in 2018.

House Bill 3 will now head to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
