COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) today announced the Ohio Controlling Board approved appropriations from the federal Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grant.
Conneaut Area City Schools is one of six school districts in Ohio to receive the grant.
“GEAR UP shows Ohio’s commitment to investing in student success by working to increase high school graduation rates and better prepare students for postsecondary education,” Fowler Arthur said.
The funds will provide counseling and advising support as well as academic preparation to help low-income middle and high school students stay in school, take rigorous courses, aspire to, and successfully participate in postsecondary education.
Eligible districts must have 50% or more of their students utilizing the free or reduced lunch program. School districts were selected for GEAR UP through an application and interview process.
