Brownfield Grant Funds Coming to Ashtabula County

COLUMBUS – State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) issued the following statement after Friday’s announcement by Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted of $192 million in grants as part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, including over $1.2 million in funding for Ashtabula County. The funding is part of $350 million lawmakers included in the state budget last year for brownfield remediation.

“It is encouraging to see Ashtabula County receive state dollars to conduct a remediation project in our area,” said Fowler Arthur. “I am happy to have supported this state budget and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have in our community.” 

A grant was awarded for the following project: 

  • Astatic Property Redevelopment, Conneaut, OH 
  • $1,207,100 granted for Cleanup/Remediation
    Industrial uses on this property date to the 1800s and include a foundry, tin can manufacturing, tungsten lamp works and most recently the manufacture of microphones and electronics by the Astatic Corporation as well as fiberglass boat construction. Boat operations ceased on the site in the early 2000s and the two original buildings were demolished in 2006. Remediation activities include removal of contaminated soil and installation of vapor mitigation
