Rep. Munira Attends White House Celebration of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Munira Abdullahi (D-Columbus) recently attended the White House’s anniversary celebration of the Rehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Both the Rehabilitation Act and ADA prohibit discrimination based on disability. The Rehabilitation Act covers federal contractors and programs receiving federal funds and the ADA covers public services, accommodations, and telecommunications. Together, they have created a more just society for Americans with disabilities in all walks of life.
“It was my privilege to attend the White House’s celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act and the 33rd Anniversary of the ADA,” said Rep Munira. “We remember the pioneers who fought to make these happen and we re-commit to promoting and championing initiatives to support and give dignity to our fellow Americans with disabilities. I would like to recognize the leadership of President Joe Biden for his work in increasing accessibility in revolutionary ways with the Infrastructure Act, and the Excitative Order directing agencies to make voter registration and information about voting resources more accessible.”
The White House event honoring the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 50th anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act was held on Monday, October 2nd.
