State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel (R-New Waterford) is raising awareness about e-bike and e-scooter safety concerns that have been brought to her office by constituents throughout District 79. As a member of the House Transportation Committee, Rep. Robb Blasdel is actively monitoring House Bill 948, legislation currently pending in the House Transportation Committee that addresses electric bicycle operations, education, and traffic safety.

“The safety of our children and families will always be a top priority for my office,” said Rep. Robb Blasdel. “I will continue to work with my colleagues on the Transportation Committee to ensure we are taking the right steps to keep our communities safe.”

Concerns have been brought to Representative Blasdel’s office regarding near-misses between e-bikes, e-scooters, and motor vehicles, particularly involving young riders in communities across Carroll and Columbiana counties. Local community leaders have also been in contact with the office as they work to address these concerns at the local level.

House Bill 948 takes a proactive approach by requiring the Ohio Department of Transportation to maintain a summary of Ohio’s e-bike laws, produce educational videos for riders, distribute safety materials through retail sellers, and incorporate e-bike awareness into driver education curriculum. The bill also calls for a study of e-bike regulations with recommendations reported to state leadership.

Constituents with concerns about e-bike and e-scooter safety in their community are encouraged to contact Representative Blasdel’s office at Rep79@ohiohouse.gov or (614) 466-8022.
