COLUMBUS – State Representative Craig (R-Smithville) is pleased to announce that numerous local school districts in Wayne County were recently awarded funding from the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program—totaling more than $195,000.

As part of the state operating budget, the Legislature provided $10 million toward helping school districts offset the costs of upgrading their bus fleets with advanced safety equipment. Flexible guidelines allowed each school district to best utilize the funds to promote safety in their fleet.

“I am grateful our county is receiving significant state funding through the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program to help upgrade school buses with modern safety equipment. This investment will make a real difference in protecting our students and giving families greater peace of mind every day,” said Craig.

The list of awardees in the 77th House District is the following:

  • Chippewa Local Schools – $20,927
  • Dalton Local Schools – $14,183
  • Green Local Schools – $6,980
  • Norwayne Local Schools – $50,187
  • Orrville City Schools – $18,154
  • Rittman Exempted Village Schools – $13,803
  • Waynedale Local Schools – $24,437
  • Wooster City Schools – $46,553

Every school district that applied for assistance with eligible equipment received an award. Schools may use the funds to incorporate safety enhancements in new buses or add safety technology to buses currently in service.
