COLUMBUS – State Representative Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe) is pleased to announce that numerous local school districts in Hocking, Vinton, Perry, and Ross Counties were recently awarded funding from the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program—totaling more than $256,035.

As part of the state operating budget, the Legislature provided $10 million toward helping school districts offset the costs of upgrading their bus fleets with advanced safety equipment. Flexible guidelines allowed each school district to best utilize the funds to promote safety in their fleet.

“Keeping our kids safe is always the top priority, and this funding will help our school districts make important improvements to school bus safety,” said Johnson. “It’s a smart investment in our children, our drivers, and our community’s peace of mind.”

The list of awardees in the 92nd House District is the following:

  • Logan-Hocking Local School District - $52,714
  • Vinton County Local School District - $20,412
  • New Lexington School District - $171,939
  • Zane Trace Local School District - $10,970

Every school district that applied for assistance with eligible equipment received an award. Schools may use the funds to incorporate safety enhancements in new buses or add safety technology to buses currently in service.
