Rep. Miller praises Lorain County Boys and Girls Club expansion

State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced the allocation of $500,000 in state funding for the Lorain County Boys and Girls Club to expand their Lorain headquarters. The project, which will add over 17,000 square feet to the existing facility, will increase the organization’s capacity to serve youth and families at their Education and Wellness Center.

Miller announces upcoming back-to-school sales tax holiday weekend

State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced the upcoming back-to-school Ohio sales tax holiday that will take place starting on Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4. In 2018, state lawmakers passed legislation making this three-day, back-to-school sales tax holiday a recurring holiday each year.

“I know firsthand how costly back-to-school supplies can be for students and their families, as well as teachers,” said Rep. Miller. “While we have more work to do to fulfill the Ohio promise of a quality education for every student, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the sales tax holiday to keep more of their hard-earned dollars in their pocket.”

Rep. Miller announces state grant for Oberlin project

State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced the release of $25,000 in grant funding for restoration work at the First Church in Oberlin, which will be used to replace the metal crown of the church’s cupola, among other projects.

“The First Church in Oberlin and the City of Oberlin have done tremendous work together to secure this competitive grant,” said Rep. Miller. “Collaborative efforts such as this ensure that the First Church in Oberlin will continue to be a source of local pride for generations to come.”

Rep. Miller announces state funding for Firelands High School construction

State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced the approval of state funding for Firelands Local School District as they move forward with their plan to construct a new high school building. The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, which oversees capital projects for Ohio’s public schools, authorized the spending.

Miller issues open letter urging HB 154 inclusion in state budget

State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today sent an open letter to his legislative colleagues as well as Governor DeWine to urge their support to retain a provision from the House-passed version of the state budget, House Bill (HB) 166, that included the provisions of Miller’s bipartisan HB 154, which would end state takeovers and return control to local school districts. The Senate removed those provisions in its version of HB 166.
