Rep. Newman Highlights School Bus Safety Grant Funding for Local Districts

COLUMBUS – State Representative Johnathan Newman (R-Troy) is pleased to announce that numerous local school districts in Miami and Darke Counties were recently awarded funding from the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program—totaling $140,125.00.
As part of the state operating budget, the Legislature provided $10 million toward helping school districts offset the costs of upgrading their bus fleets with advanced safety equipment. Flexible guidelines allowed each school district to best utilize the funds to promote safety in their fleet.
“The State of Ohio is investing in our children’s education and safety. These funds will strengthen further our already excellent safety standards on school buses by adding modern safety features,” said Newman.
The list of awardees in the 80th House District is the following:
Miami County:
- Bethel - $40,616.00
- Bradford Exempted Village - $8,191.00
- Covington Exempted Village - $5,000.00
- Piqua City - $9,651.00
- Troy City - $23,325.00
Southern Darke County:
- Arcanum-Butler - $21,319.00
- Franklin Monroe - $12,930.00
- Tri-Village - $19,183.00
Every school district that applied for assistance with eligible equipment received an award. Schools may use the funds to incorporate safety enhancements in new buses or add safety technology to buses currently in service.
