Johnathan Newman Biography

Representative Johnathan Newman serves the people of House District 80

State Representative Johnathan Newman is serving his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 80th Ohio House District, which includes Miami County and southern Darke County. In addition to serving as Vice Chair of the House Agriculture Committee, Newman serves on the Community Revitalization, Education and Transportation committees.

Newman is a pastor entrepreneur, starting a new church affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention where he has been the senior pastor for 26 years.

He has been of help to many in the community as a certified marriage and family counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors.

Representative Newman has been a strong and outspoken advocate for the unborn for many years and a supporter of the pregnancy resource center Hope Rising in Dayton. He was awarded the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Award by the Center for Christian Virtue in 2017 for championing the protection of the unborn.

He holds bachelor’s degrees in theology and sociology from Union University in Jackson, TN, as well as a master’s degree in theology from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. 

He is a marathon runner and loves coaching baseball, canoeing, hunting and fishing. 

Newman and his wife, Jeni, have been married for 27 years, have three adult children and raised their family in Troy.
