State Representative Heidi Workman (R-Rootstown) is encouraging residents in her district to pay only the first half of their property taxes by the February 26 deadline in order to receive immediate tax relief reflected in their June payment.

“The Ohio Legislature has worked diligently to provide meaningful property tax relief for Ohioans,” said Rep. Workman. “By spreading your property tax payments over two half-year installments, you’ll see the Inflation Cap Credit lower your June bill – putting extra dollars back in your wallet!”

In late December, Governor DeWine signed five property tax bills championed by Ohio House Republicans. While these measures will not take effect until after June of 2026, Rep. Workman emphasized that residents could act now to ensure timely relief.

For the first time, the new Inflation Cap Credit – enacted in House Bill 186 – will be applied to tax bills starting this year. Taxpayers living in a school district on the 20-mill floor will receive their annual tax credit starting this year, however this change will be applied in full on the second-half tax bill.

Rep. Workman cautions that individuals who pay their full annual tax bill upfront may experience delay receiving the money they are entitled to, as the benefit may come in the form of a tax refund or a credit applied to their future property tax bills.
