“I’ve been monitoring the unfolding situation in Afghanistan very closely, and the tragic death and wounding of both American military personnel and Afghan civilians due to cowardly terrorist attacks in Afghanistan today is both heartbreaking and disturbing. As a member of the military who served in Afghanistan from December 2010 through July 2011, I grieve for my fellow service members whose lives were taken today, and pray for a full recovery of those who were wounded. Committee assignments by the Speaker of the House provide members an opportunity to dig deeper into a variety of subject areas that may impact the constituents they serve. During this 134th General Assembly, Speaker Bob Cupp, R-Lima, assigned me to the five significant committees, two of which are the House Finance Committee and the Finance Subcommittee on Higher Education. Through service on these committees, it became quickly apparent of the need to prioritize our higher education institutions within this year’s state budget bill. With the governor’s signature on House Bill 110, I can attest that we followed through on this endeavor.
