These past few months have been incredibly busy at the people’s house in Columbus. We have been hard at work researching, crafting, and ultimately passing legislation that will help improve our great state of Ohio. One piece of legislation I believe will help Ohio is Substitute House Bill 347, legislation that limits the use of civil asset forfeiture.

State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) is joining with the Cuyahoga County Library in hosting a Military Resource Fair on Friday, September 2nd.  
 

State Representative Mike Henne (R-Clayton) today announced that Northmont City Schools in Ohio House District 40, which he represents, is recommended to receive a grant from the Straight A Fund.

Columbus has been selected to receive a federal Smart City grant, beating out 78 other cities across the nation for a $50 million grant to establish an intelligent transportation system.

State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) today congratulated the Cities of Independence, Brecksville, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Village, Highland Heights and Gates Mills for being named recipients of the Local Government Safety Capital Grant funds.

State Representative Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) applauded Governor John Kasich’s signing of legislation aimed at increasing efficiency and saving taxpayer dollars in local governments and state agencies. Rep. Koehler sponsored Substitute House Bill 5 with Representative Stephanie Kunze (R-Hilliard).

State Representative Brian Hill (R-Zanesville) today applauded Governor Kasich’s signing of House Bill 110 into law, also known as “Brandon’s Law,” legislation that increases the penalties for failure to stop after an accident and failure to stop after a nonpublic road accident when the offenses result in the death or serious physical harm to a person.

House Bill 110 includes provisions from House Bill 249, the “Good Samaritan Law,” legislation that was originally sponsored by Representative Sprague and Representative Denise Driehaus (D-Cincinnati).

The Ohio General Assembly has approved $1 million in funding to save the Wright brothers’ factory for a national park site, Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger announced today.

State Representative Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) is partnering with local libraries to help promote her “Legislator for a Day” reading program.  To participate in the program, children in grades 1st through 6th may stop by any participating library starting Monday, June 6, 2015, to pick up a bookmark that can be used to document five books they have read. 

As we move into the summer months, I’m certainly looking forward to all the activities taking place in Richland County and around Ohio. Ohio’s new brand: “Ohio. Find it Here,” certainly captures the essence of our state and highlights its’ vast tourism industry.  We are truly blessed to live in a state with such a large variety of activities as well as limitless opportunities for adventure—including amusement parks, state parks, rivers, campsites, in addition to the many festivals and live events hosted by big and small cities throughout Ohio.

COLUMBUS—State Representatives Jonathan Dever (R-Madeira) and Margy Conditt (R-Liberty Township) today joined with Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel to highlight the official launch of STABLE accounts in Ohio. The savings plan, which is the first of its kind in the country, enables individuals with disabilities the option to save and invest.

The Ohio House of Representatives yesterday passed legislation that reins in the use of civil asset forfeiture, a judicial process by which the government can take a person’s property based on the allegation of its involvement in a crime without ever charging the individual with a crime.
