Rep. Jarrells announces opening of applications for the Ohio Legislative Service Commission Fellowship

Today, Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) announced today that the Ohio Legislative Service Commission is accepting applications for its 13-month Legislative and Media Production Fellowship Program. The Commission will hire 24 fellows to work with members of the Ohio General Assembly during 2022.

Rep. Jarrells to introduce bipartisan High School Education Recovery Act

 

COLUMBUS- State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) today announced he will be introducing emergency legislation with Rep. Brett Hudson Hillyer (R-Uhrichsville) that would allow any student currently working on or making progress towards a high school credit during the 2020-2021 school year to use the 2021-2022 school year as a supplemental year to retake or supplement courses the student already has taken.

Rep. Jarrells, Democrats stand with Ohioans, oppose anti-voter resolution on House floor

State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) joined Democrats in opposing a Republican resolution that would urge Congress not to pass HR 1, the For the People Act, federal pro-voter legislation that would protect the freedom to vote, prevent billionaires from buying influence in elections, and make sure voting options are equally accessible across all 50 states.

Rep. Jarrells joins the Council of State Governments 2021-22 Healthy States National Task Force

Rep. Dontavius Jarrells announced today that he was invited to join the Council of State Government 2021-2022 Healthy State National Task Force due to his expertise and commitment to policy change and improvement. The task force is comprised of approximately 60 state leaders from all three branches of government across the country.

Rep. Jarrells applauds passage, but questions GOP's costly delay of $2 billion in COVID-19 relief funds

Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) today applauded the House passage of a $2 billion package of coronavirus relief bills to deliver direct aid for rent and utility assistance, childcare providers, bars, restaurants, lodging and schools, among other industries facing economic impact from the coronavirus pandemic. Democratic lawmakers also expressed concern over the months-long delay in the release of the funding, which they say slowed the state’s recovery.

Rep. Jarrells says transportation budget moves state in right direction

COLUMBUS –Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) issued a statement following the final passage of House Bill (HB) 74, the state’s two-year transportation budget. Democrats fought against the governor’s proposed cuts to public transit funding in the bill, securing more than $221 million over the next two years, more than doubling the governor’s proposed investment.

Rep. Jarrells to introduce legislation that will remove derogatory terminology in the Ohio Revised Code

COLUMBUS—Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) will be introducing legislation removing additional derogatory language within the state’s code. This legislation will be continuation of the work started by House Bill 158 in the 131st General Assembly, which replaced references to “mentally retarded person” in the Ohio Revised Code.
