COLUMBUS — State Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) today volunteered at the NNEMAP Food Pantry in Columbus, offering hands-on support as part of his ongoing efforts to assist constituents, particularly with the potential lapse in federal SNAP benefits. Jarrells worked alongside volunteers to distribute food, underscoring the essential role food pantries play in keeping families fed during times of crisis.

“I’m encourage by the Governor’s decision to step in. It shows that the voices of families, advocated, and legislators are being heard,” said Rep. Jarrells. “But our work isn’t finished. We need to see the details, ensure the funding reaches every family who needs it, and build long-term safeguards so no one has to live in fear of losing their next meal. Until that happens, I’ll keep showing up and standing with those who fee our communicates when government stalls.”

Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits were set to expire on November 1 unless Congress restored funding, or the state acted to provide emergency relief. Earlier today, Governor DeWine announced that his administration will release funds to help sustain the program temporarily. Lawmakers and advocates are still awaiting details on how those funds will be distributed.
