Rep. Jarrells' Pay Stub Protection Act Advances Through Legislature, Heads to Governor DeWine's Desk
COLUMBUS – State Reps. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) and Scott Lipps (R-Franklin) Wednesday saw their bipartisan House Bill (HB) 106 passed out of the Ohio Senate.
Ohio is on the verge of a historic win for working families as the Pay Stub Protection Act passed through both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly and now heads to Governor Mike DeWine’s desk for his signature. This milestone legislation requires Ohio employers to provide their employees with pay stubs, ensuring transparency and accountability in the workplace.
“This marks a victory for working families across Ohio. For far too long, Ohio has been one of the few states where workers have had to struggle without the basic protection of paystub access. This bill ensures that every hard-working Ohioan will have the transparency they deserve when it comes to their pay. No longer will families have to navigate the courts to verify the wages they’ve earned,” said Rep. Jarrells.
For years, Ohio was one of only nine states in the nation without this key employee protection, which left workers without the necessary paper trail to prove their pay and deductions. With the signing of HB 106, Ohio now joins the overwhelming majority of states requiring paystub issuance and will finally give employees the ammunition they need to challenge employers over wages, hours, and deductions.
“This is more than just a bill—this is a step toward fairness and justice for all workers,” added Rep. Jarrells. “I’d like to thank my joint sponsor, Rep. Scott Lipps, and my dear friend, former Rep. Brigid Kelly for their leadership on this bill in the 132nd and 133rd General Assemblies. Through our collective efforts, we’re not just creating a law—we’re creating a legacy of fairness and dignity for every Ohio worker.”
The Paystub Protection Act is expected to go into effect 90 days once signed, and workers across Ohio will soon be able to enjoy the protection they have long deserved.
